Two tournaments are held each year at Paradise Cove. The Minaki Walleye Classic will be taking place July
6th and 7th and the Gary Roach Pro-Team will be taking place August 17th
and 18th. The entry forms for both events are available below.
The 25th Gary Roach Pro Team tourney is in the books. The bite was tough with the fish coming from 25 to 40 ft. There was plenty fish caught, but hard to get the right size fish for weigh in. We sure have a good supply of fish from 19 - 26 in. and it is fun to catch them and recycle them back to the lake. Half the fish we caught over the weekend were under 13 in. which proves those big fish are reproducing our lakes. With luck on my side I finally won the Gary Roach tourney for the second time in 25 years. 1988 was the last time I had a won, which was the first Gary Roach tourney held at Paradise Cove. I guess I was due, but to add to the excitement after my partner and I received the first place money I decided to give my winnings back to the fisherman that have supported this tourney all these years. We had a drawing for the fisherman from 11th to 37th, 6 prizes of $500.00 that we drew from a hat. I decided the 1st place trophy and bragging rights was plenty for me. Hope to see you all at the 2014 Gary Roach tourney for more fun on the water. Special thanks to Lund boats for the 500.00 prize for top Lund finisher. Thanks again for coming to Paradise. - Duane
Minaki's woods offer hunters the best Whitetail deer hunting around. Trophy quality is what you can expect when hunting around Paradise Cove. The Minaki area is mostly crown land which is open to public hunting. People can hunt clear cuts, open ridges, swamp land and power lines on their own. The only cost is the license and cabin rental of $45.00 a day when hunting from Paradise Cove. Licenses are approximately $225.00 and they can be purchased over the counter. An export permit, costs about $35.00, is required if a person bags their buck. Paradise Cove also has to offer baited ground blinds that are rented for $120.00 a day with a 2 day minimum.
We begin feeding the deer 3 weeks ahead of season and get the deer coming to the ground blind area which are watched by our trail cameras. We usually have 20 sites available. We will take you to the blinds on your day of arrival to show you the location and you can come and go as you please after that. Some blinds are close enough together for radio communication between friends. Party hunting is also allowed if you bag your buck early. A person can help his friend bag there buck as long as they are in radio or cell phone communication.
Our deer season is open from the 1st Saturday in October until November 15th. The rut usually happens around the 20th of October. We also have a large building to hang and process your deer. There is also a freezer for your deer meat. We have great grouse hunting and the fishing is good at that time also. We have rental boats in the water if you want to hunt islands or go on a fishing trip. Make sure you have your cabins booked well in advance because they fill up fast.
